While the general public may have heard an interview on the radio or may have read a piece in the local newspaper about a project that was taking off at Benburb Priory, the Library and Museum is a now becoming a physical reality.
After years of hard work and planning from a visionary group of people - Benburb Priory will soon have a state of the art facility that will appeal to families, scholars, community, young people, schools and many more. While the rare collections will be of intrigue to many; the cafe, museum, exhibitions, walks and events will provide year round learning, fun and recreation for all.
Here are some photos of the progressing refurbishment.
Behind the scenes, there are many people working hard to ensure that everything will be ready for the public. The Library and Museum is being managed by Jason Donaghy in collaboration with a wide ranging and skilled management board, staff, volunteers and contractors. Lots is happening from conserving the books to managing the collections; from preparing educational materials to planning for a sustainable future.
Benburb Priory will now be, more than ever, a place to truly relax, learn, reflect or grow. There is no set date yet on when the Library and Museum will be open to the public but it is expected to be late 2016 / early2017. Keep an eye on the website as there will be plenty of more exciting news to come!
